The uniquely natural and organic sound of The Last InnHouse comes from the cohesion of two people that have always been destined to make music together. Over time, this highly artistic, British, Alt/Country/Indie band has refined its style into an immaculate experiential sound.
Their debut album, released in June 2019, was acclaimed in the music press, described by Narc Magazine as, "a colourful palette of darkly luscious, musical soundscapes and thought-provoking lyricism." The Crack Magazine praised their wide ranging influence and cross-genre style, describing The Last InnHouse as, "a real crackerjack, pulling all manner of influences under their spell, from country to folk to indie, as well as all of their respective alt cousins, and weave them into a beguiling, supremely satisfying whole. Do seek them out."
Officially formed in 2011, at the core of The Last InnHouse, you’ll find founding members Victoria Siddoway and Craig McDearmid who form the heart of this band. Victoria spent nearly half her life in Australia in the music-mecca of Sydney, submerged in the underground music scene, and taking influence from the vast array of music on offer, influencing her style, sound, and songwriting, before moving back home to the UK, where she started working with Craig, who was thriving as a musician in Newcastle with a featured residency at the infamous Jazz café on Pink Lane. Working together at last, they created a home recording studio in the countryside, unlocking their style and instantly confirming that they complemented each other as musicians in one boldly unified sound.
The Last InnHouse went on on to have some of their earliest demo material receive radio airtime, in addition to also having two tracks recognised in the nationally-renowned UK Songwriting Competition where they placed in the semi-finals, establishing their home within the music scene and building their reputation for excellence with support from critics and fans.
Over the years to follow, they crafted an entire set of compelling material in their debut album that genuinely represented their innate ability to create music that truly moves listeners on several levels. Whether it’s through their insightful and poetic lyricism, the atmospherically and emotionally powerful melodies and music they create, or their remarkable instrumentation continually on display, The Last InnHouse dialled right into their ambitions and wildest ideas in a sincere effort to write songs that would transcend a mere listening into an unforgettable sensory experience.
With an entire album’s worth of stunningly evocative and beautifully expressive songs, The Last InnHouse searched for the right producer to move their music to the next level. They found the expertise of producer and drummer, Grant Henderson of Loom Studios in Yorkshire, who would go on to play an essential role in bringing out the very best of the band when it came time to record their debut album, Skimming Stone, officially released in June 2019. To expand their ideas and sound even more, key players like Paul Gowland (Saxophone), Neil Mabon (Bass) and Mick Burdon (Bass) also lent their time and talents to Skimming Stone, creating a musical landscape that flows freely throughout the vibrant material on their first record. Through a colourful palette of darkly luscious, illustrious musical soundscapes, and thought-provoking lyricism that speaks directly to the heart and soul, The Last InnHouse are determined to offer the world a different perspective on what music and art - as a combined experience - can truly be.
